Las Vegas (pop. 741,459), city in southwestern Nevada, seat of Clark County. It is renowned for “The Strip,” with its casinos (state-legalized gambling), luxury hotels, bars, and nightclubs. The city is also a mining and cattle-farming center. There are artesian springs nearby. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
