Larva

Larva, metamorphic stage of development in some animals in which the young are noticeably different in feature and behavior from their parents. Larvae most often occur in the metamorphoses of insects and aquatic animals. The length of the larval phase varies according to species. Examples of larvae are the tadpoles of frogs and toads and the caterpillars of butterflies and moths.
