Lake Pontchartrain



Lake Pontchartrain, lagoon-like lake in southern Louisiana, connected to the Mississippi River through the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal. Its briny water provides abundant game fish for the numerous small resorts along its shores. It is 40 mi (64 km) long and 25 mi (40 km) wide. It is crossed by the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the world's longest bridge (29.2 mi/47 km).
