Lake Maracaibo



Lake Maracaibo, lake in northwestern Venezuela, in the oil-producing region. Connected to the Carrribean Sea by a dredged channel, Lake Maracaibo has an area of 5,217 sq mi (13,512 sq km), making it South America's largest lake. The southern shore produces agricultural products, notably sugarcane, coconuts, cacao, and coffee.
