Lake Champlain



Lake Champlain, long, narrow lake forming much of the border between New York State and Vermont, with its northern tip extending into the Canadian province of Quebec. Named after the first European to see it, French explorer Samuel de Champlain, it is 107 mi (172 km) long, 1–14 mi (1.6–22 km) wide, and up to 400 ft (122 m) deep. Lake Champlain was the site of many naval battles during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
