Juanita Morris Kreps



Kreps, Juanita Morris (1921– ), U.S. economist, author, public official. Kreps was U.S. secretary of commerce (1977–79), the first woman to hold that office. She has been a teacher of economics at colleges since 1945, and vice president of Duke University since 1979. In 1972 Kreps became one of the 10 public directors on the newly reorganized board of directors of the New York Stock Exchange, the first woman to serve on the NYSE's policy-making board. Her writings include books dealing with the rights of women and the aged: Lifetime Allocation of Work and Income: Essays in the Economics of Aging (1971); Women and the American Economy (1976).
