Kowloon

Kowloon, Juilong, or Chiulung (pop. 799,100), peninsula across Kowloon Bay from the island of Hong Kong, near Guangzhou (Canton), southern China, but part of the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong since 1860. Only 4 sq mi (10 sq km), it is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. It is an important transportation and commercial link between the People's Republic of China and the West. As part of British Hong Kong it was reverted to Chinese control in 1997.
