Charles Everett Koop



Koop, Charles Everett (1916– ), U.S. surgeon general (1982–89). Known for his vigorous opposition to cigarette smoking and abortion, in 1987 Koop proposed extensive sex education and the use of condoms to halt the spread of AIDS.
