Käthe Kollwitz



Kollwitz, Käthe (1867–1945), German artist known for her lithographs, woodcuts, and sculpture. Opposed to social injustice, she often depicted human misery and tragedy using the theme of mother and child. Among her well-known works are War (1923), a series of 7 wood-block prints, and the sculptures The Mother and The Father (1931–32), a war memorial.
