Arthur Koestler



Koestler, Arthur (1905–83), Hungarian-born British writer. His novel Darkness at Noon (1941), based on his own experiences in a Spanish death cell, analyzed the psychology of victims of Stalin's 1930s purges. Many later works on philosophical and scientific subjects include The Sleepwalkers (1964), The Case of the Midwife Toad (1971), and The Thirteenth Tribe (1978).
