hitches Knots and splices

Knots, hitches, and splices, methods to tie or fasten ropes. A knot is a fastening of cord or ropes. A hitch is used to tie a rope to a ring, spar, post, or other object. A splice joins 2 rope ends permanently. Sailors, explorers, mountain climbers, and builders make wide use of knots. The Gordian knot of Greek mythology, which reputedly could not be untied except by a person predestined to do so, is used as a metaphor for any unsolvable problem.
