Shibasaburo Kitasato



Kitasato, Shibasaburo (1852–1931), Japanese bacteriologist. He discovered with Emil von Behring that graded injections of toxins could be used for diphtheria immunization (1890). He also discovered (1894) the infectious agent of bubonic plague (which he described simultaneously with A.E.J. Yersin).
