King Philip's War

King Philip's War (1675–76), last Native American resistance to the whites in New England. In 1675 the Plymouth Colony executed 3 Native Americans for an alleged murder. Metacom, a Wampanoag chief also called King Philip, led an alliance of tribes in fierce guerrilla raids. The whites replied in kind, and Metacom was killed when his secret refuge was betrayed. The colonists then drove most of the Native Americans from New England.
