Kibbutz



Kibbutz, type of collective farm in Israel established in the early 20th century. Land held by the Jewish National Fund is rented to the kibbutz inexpensively. Nearly all property on the kibbutz is collectively owned. All work, economic, and municipal activities are done communally. Kibbutzim provide food, accommodations, nurseries, and elementary education.
