Khazars



Khazars, Turkic people whose empire in southern Russia and the Caucasus controlled trade between the Slavs, Byzantium, and the Far East from 550 until the Byzantines and Russians overwhelmed it (969–1030). The king and nobility adopted Judaism in about 740.
