Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts , part of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., designed by U.S. architect Edward Durell Stone as a national memorial to the late president. The center, which opened 1971, houses 3 main theaters: the Eisenhower Theater, which seats 1,000 persons and offers dramatic productions; the Opera House, which seats 2,200 and presents opera, ballet, and musical comedies; and the Concert Hall, which seats 2,750 and features concert music.
