Gene Kelly



Kelly, Gene (1912–96), U.S. actor, dancer, and director, known for his spontaneous, athletic dancing routines. Kelly made his Broadway debut in Leave It to Me (1938), gained recognition for his role in Pal Joey (1940), and made his first film appearance in For Me and My Gal (1942). He helped choreograph many of his musicals, including Cover Girl (1944), Anchors Aweigh (1945), On the Town (1949), and Singin' in the Rain (1952).
