Kava



Kava, shrub (genus Piper) native to the Pacific Islands and Australia, closely related to the pepper plant. Kava may reach a height of 5 ft (1.5 m), and has round leaves and yellowish-cream flowers. Juice taken from the root of the shrub is used to produce a nonalcoholic intoxicant called kava or kavakava.
