Angelica Kauffmann



Kauffmann, Angelica (1741–1807), Swiss painter. Her works often depict mythological and historical events from ancient Greece and Rome. Initially a portrait painter in Italy, she traveled to England and in 1768 became a founding member of London's Royal Academy of Arts. Kauffmann returned to Italy in 1781. She is known for her wall paintings decorating English residences designed by Robert Adam. Other works include Religion and La Pensierosa.
