K2



K2, mountain peak in the Himalayas of northern Kashmir, near the China-India border, second highest in the world. Also known as Mount Godwin-Austen and Dapsang, K2 is 29,064 ft (8,859 m) high. It was first scaled in 1954 by an Italian team under the leadership of Ardito Desio. Henry Haversham Godwin Austen surveyed the mountain in 1856.
