Judah Maccabee



Judah Maccabee (d.160–? B.C.), Jewish leader of the Hasmonean dynasty who, upon his father's death, took leadership of the revolt against the Syrian ruler Antiochus IV, who had initiated religious persecution of the Jews. Judah Maccabee's rededication of the temple of Jerusalem is commemorated by the Hanukkah.
