Jolson, Al (Asa Yoelson;c. 1866–1950), Russian-born U.S. singer and actor. Star of the first full-length sound film, The Jazz Singer (1927), Jolson popularized such songs as “Sonny-Boy,” “Swanee,” and “Mammy.”
