Joint Chiefs of Staff



Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. agency within the Dept. of Defense, meant to advise the president and secretary of defense on military matters. Set up in 1942, it has five members: a chairman, the Army and Air Force chiefs of staff, the chief of naval operations, and the Marine Corps commandant.
