Saint John of the Cross



John of the Cross, Saint (1542–91), Spanish poet and mystic, founder of a reformed Carmelite order. Influenced by St. Theresa of Avila, he is remembered for such treatises as The Dark Night of the Soul. Canonized in 1726, he was made a Doctor of the Church in 1926.
