Book of Job

Job, Book of, book of the Old Testament, 18th in the Authoized Version. Apparently based on a folk tale in dialogue form, it is about the problem of good and evil. God permits Satan to torment the virtuous Job with the loss of family, wealth, and health. Finding small comfort in wife and friends, Job is bitter, but remains faithful. He is restored to good fortune in old age.
