Jet stream



Jet stream, narrow bands of fast easterly-flowing winds, stronger in winter than in summer, found at altitudes of 7 to 8 mi (11–13 km). Speeds average about 40 mph (64 kmph) in summer and 80 mph (128 kmph) in winter, though more than 200 mph (320 kmph) has been recorded.
