Jay, brightly colored, noisy bird of the crow family. Many jays bear crests. They are found in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. The blue jay (Cyanocitta cristatd) lives in eastern North America, while the scrub jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens), Steller's jay (C. stelleri), and piñon (Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus) are found in the Rocky Mountains.
