Japanese

language characters

Japanese, language spoken by more than 100 million people, most of them in Japan. Japanese seems not to be related to any other language, although some linguists believe there may be a connection with Korean. Written Japanese originally used only adapted Chinese characters (kanji); in the 8th century phonetic characters (kana) were added.
