Jack rabbit

Jack rabbit, common name for hares of the genus Lepus. All seven species are found in central and western North America. Jackrabbits have large ears and longer hind legs than rabbits. Found in open, comparatively arid plains, they flourish in drought-stricken, overgrazed areas. They move by jumping rather than running.
