Jackal

Jackal, carnivorous mammal (genus Canus) closely related to dogs and wolves. The four species are distributed throughout Africa and South Asia. Though often considered primarily scavengers, jackals will also hunt and kill birds, hares, mice, and insects. Small packs may form temporarily, but they are usually solitary animals.
