Ivory palm



Ivory palm, or ivory nut palm (Phytelephas macrocarpa), slow-growing palm with a short trunk, native to South America. Plants are male or female. Female flowers form a cluster of seeds that ripen and fall to the ground. Hard and white, the seeds are easy to carve and are used for buttons, chess pieces, and small ornaments.
