Io, in Greek mythology, princess of Argos and mistress of the god Zeus. One myth maintains that Zeus changed Io into a cow in order to disguise her from his jealous wife, Hera. Another myth holds that Hera herself transformed Io into a heifer. Io was eventually driven to Egypt, and she has been identified with the Egyptian Isis.
