Illyria



Illyria, ancient country in the northwestern part of the Balkan peninsula. It was settled in the 10th century B.C. by Illyrians, an Indo-European-speaking people who extended their influence from the Danube River to the Adriatic Sea in modern-day Yugoslavia and Albania. It became the Roman province of Illyricum (168 B.C.).
