Sieur d' Iberville
Iberville, Sieur d' (1661–1706), French-Canadian fur trader and explorer, founder of Louisiana. In 1699 he began exploring the mouths of the Mississippi River; he built a fort on Biloxi Bay and established a post at the site of Mobile, Ala.
