Hypothalamus



Hypothalamus, central part of the base of the brain, closely related to the pituitary gland. It contains vital centers for controlling the autonomic nervous system, body temperature, and water and food intake, and is the center for primitive physical and emotional behavior. It also produces hormones for regulating pituitary secretion and systemic hormones including vasopressin and oxytocin.
