Hyperbola



Hyperbola, in geometry, curve consisting of 2 separate branches opening out in opposite directions. The hyperbola is one of the conic sections, formed when a right circular cone is intersected by a plane. It may be expressed in analytic geometry by the equation y = 1/x.
