Hyderabad



Hyderabad, region on the Deccan plateau that was once a state of south central India. Historically, Hyderabad was the site of a Hindu civilization taken over by the Muslim Mogul Empire in the 17th century. It became part of India in 1948, after a plebescite rejected independence. In 1950 it was divided among the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Crops include cotton, rice, and grain. Mineral deposits are also present in the area.
