Hyacinth

Hyacinth, plant (genus Hyacinthus, especially H. orientalis) of the lily family grown from a bulb that produces a head of beautifully colored and perfumed flowers. It originated in the Mediterranean region. Water hyacinths (Eichhornia crassipes) are unrelated plants. They float on water and have been introduced to many places where they become a nuisance by blocking waterways.
