Huntsville



Huntsville (pop. 238,912), city in northeastern Alabama. Founded in 1805, Huntsville was the site of the state constitutional convention in 1819, which resulted in statehood for Alabama. In the 1950s, with the establishment of the U.S. Redstone Arsenal as a research base, the city became an important center for the aerospace industry and is now known as “Rocket City, USA.”
