Hummingbird

Hummingbird, tiny nectar-feeding bird of the family Trochilidae. It takes its name from the noise of its rapid wingbeats—up to 70 a second in smaller species—as it hovers at flowers to feed. Hummingbirds are colorful, with a body size in most species 2 in (5 cm) or less. With their small size and fierce activity, hummingbirds must feed about once every 10–15 min. Highly adapted to flight, hummingbirds have short legs and little feet, used only for perching. They can hover in one place and are the only birds capable of flying backward.
