Gordie Howe



Howe, Gordie (1928– ), record-setting U.S. ice hockey player. He played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings (1946–71) and Hartford Whalers (1979–80) and was named the league's most valuable player 6 times (1952, 53, 57, 58, 60, 63). Howe holds career records for most games played (1,767), most goals scored (801) and was selected as an all-star 22 times. He played for the Houston Aeros (1973–77) of the World Hockey Association (WHA) and was named its most valuable player (1974). Howe was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
