Hound

Hound, group of dogs that hunt by sight or by following scent. Sight hounds chase quarry, overtake it, then kill or capture it. They include the greyhound, Afghan hound, Saluki, and Irish wolfhound. Scent hounds, or tailing hounds, follow the scent of their quarry and flush it out. They include the beagle, bloodhound, bassett hound, and dachshund. In general, hounds are strong, alert, and loyal dogs.
