Miklós Horthy de Nagybanya



Horthy de Nagybanya, Miklós (1868–1957), Hungarian admiral and politician who led the counter-revolutionary army that overthrew the Communist and socialist coalition under BélaKun (1919). From 1920 he acted as regent. He joined the Axis powers in World War II, but after trying to make peace with the USSR in 1944, he was imprisoned in Germany. Freed by U.S. forces, he settled in Portugal (1949).
