Rogers Hornsby



Hornsby, Rogers (1896–1963), U.S. baseball player and manager. Hornsby, a second baseman, is considered one of the greatest right-handed batters in the game's history. His achievements include 7 National League batting titles (consecutively from 1920–25, 1928), hitting .424—the single season record (1924), and a lifetime batting average of .358, second only to Ty Cobb's .367. Hornsby played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1915–26, and 1933), New York Giants (1927), Boston Braves (1928), Chicago Cubs (1929–32), and the St. Louis Browns (1933–37). He went onto manage after his 1937 season and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (1942).
