Horatius

Horatius (Publius Horatius Codes), legendary Roman hero. He and two companions are said to have held off an invading Etruscan army at the Sublician Bridge across the Tiber River. The Romans cut the bridge behind him, blocking the Etruscan advance, and Horatius escaped by swimming across the river.
