Francis Hopkinson



Hopkinson, Francis (1737–91), American composer, delegate to the Continental Congress, and signer of the Declaration of Independence. His 1788 song collection was dedicated to George Washington. His son Joseph Hopkinson (1770–1842) wrote the words to “Hail Columbia.”
