Hopi

Hopi, Pueblo Native American tribe of northeast Arizona. The Hopi have a complex society based on clans organized around matrilineal extended households. Since the 1820s there have been territorial conflicts between the Hopi and Navajo. In 1975 the federal government redrew territorial boundaries, making several thousand Navajo move. The Hopi are known for their elaborate religious ceremonies, which feature dancing and the kachina figure.
