Home economics



Home economics, in education, all the disciplines necessary to home maintenance: cooking, nutrition, sewing, the nature and use of textiles, household equipment, and budgeting. Originally it was not considered a scholastic subject, but today it is a common high school elective, and colleges offer degree courses in it. In the United Kingdom it is called domestic science.
