Meindert Hobbema
Hobbema, Meindert (1638–1709), Dutch landscape painter, taught by Jacob van Ruisdael. His atmospheric river scenes and his later forest and road landscapes, such as The Avenue at Middelharnis (1689), foreshadowed John Constable and others.
