Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus, one of the largest living terrestrial mammals (Hippopotamus amphibius), distantly related to the pig, widespread in Africa. Hippopotamuses generally are about 5 ft (1.6 m) tall and weigh about 5 tons (4,500 kg). They have massive bodies set on short legs, each with four toes with hoof-like nails. Their noses, eyes, and ears are on top of their heads, which allows them to spend most of the day submerged in rivers. At night they come on land to graze.
